Here is a great easy project to do with kids of all ages!
How to make your own puff paint…
- 1 tablespoon self-rising flour
(you can make your own 1.5 C flour, 3/4 T baking powder, 1 t salt)
- a few drops of food coloring
- 1 tablespoon salt
Then add some water to make a nice smooth paste.
Make your shapes on some heavy paper or cardboard, place in the microwave for about 30 seconds. It makes the ‘paint’ puff up and dry out nicely so it won’t make a mess after it goes in the microwave.
I always try to add a little education to our crafts when possible, for my toddler we practiced shapes. I could imagine making it a science experiment (why baking powder needs salt etc.), practice letters or mixing colors (blue and yellow make green) etc etc. I think next time we will use it to fingerpaint with.
I divided each color into a ziploc bag and cut the corner to make it easier to decorate out papers/cardboard.
Thank you to One Craft Mumma for this idea!
